HDSL (Hi-speed Digital Subscriber Line)

HDSL is an evolution of ADSL technology.
The technological underpinnings of these two types of connection are more or less the same.
Both exploit the preexisting copper wiring of the traditional telephone network (even though actually HDSL requires addition of another wire), but the bandwidth of a HDSL connection is much broader: up to 8 Mbps.
Unlike ADSL, the HDSL connection is "symmetrical"; that is, the maximum speed is the same in transmission and in reception. Like the ADSL, the HDSL provides permanent, 24-hour web connection.
A peripheral device called a "router," which is connected to the computer's network card, is required for this type of connection.
